First Birthday
I didn't get a chance to post a birthday photo yesterday for this wonderful little guy because I was recovering from a night of mastitis. It was a bit ironic as I recalled the 24 hours of labor exactly one year prior. Eleven pounds two ounces of sugar puddin' goodness and worth every push. Happy birthday, C. I love you so much I can hardly stand it.
Speaking of mastitis, did you know a potato poultice can help? A grated potato applied to the affected breast can relieve symptoms — in my case it instantly stopped the feverish shivering. I've used both the potato and the cabbage remedies before, both with success. In addition, I take hot baths and express with the electric breast pump. Rest is important, too.

I didn't realize your son and my daughter had the same birthday. Give him a big birthday hug for me! I can't believe it's already been a year - I'm sure you're thinking the same thing :)

Oh Michelle, how I feel for you! Mastitis is horrible. It made me so sick. And my son was 11 lb 2 oz as well. That wasn't much fun either !!! Was your boy incessantly starving like mine? I've never seen a baby eat so much! He was permanently attached to me for the first year of his life.

aiiiieeeeee, mastitis! I wish i had known about the potato thing back in my nursin' days! (i can't believe i am saying this, but i really do sort of miss nursing.....it is such a special time!!!!)

I love that baby, too. Because I think he looks like you, and I've loved you for nigh on 13 years, when I see him, I melt a little. And when he smiles at me I feel like the most special person in the Whole World Ever.
Tell that big boy to stop slackin'. He's not too old for sucks (what we called it, sorry) Wish I'd known about the potato, lord knows I never had cabbage around.

WHat a cute little boy. Happy Birthday! Sorry to hear about your illness, I went through that once too and man was it painful! Hot shower, pumping, tylenol and bed was what I did.
Holy Cow! That's one big baby, i though pushing out a 7lb 12oz baby and 8lb 2 oz baby was hard work.

I got Mastisis early on. I recall those chills like it was yesterday. I did plenty of rest, echinecha and some other herb my midwife told me about. Recover soon & happy birthday baby.
sorry to hear bout the boob fire, but glad to hear there is something other than CABBAGE to use. for those of us who live many miles from cabbage.

Oh, Michelle, your sons are so adorable. I saw the matching photo for H. on your Flickr. They are heart melting! You know you've been blogging a while when people you 'met' when they were pregnant now have a one-year-old. Time flies!

I hope the mastitis is better.I got it with each of my four girls and can really sympathise.Luckily hubby sells fruit and veg so we always had a steady supply of cabbages.I found the darker green the better.

Oh you poor thing! Mastitis is the worst! Beware of the cabbage though if you are allergic to sulphas, I kid you not, I had severe mastitis, THEN an allergic reaction to the cabbage! Rest rest rest and drink as lot of water! Good for you to make it a whole year nursing!

eek- 11 pound 2 ounces?! Scary thought. My husband was over 11 pounds too, and I'm just hoping and praying that our offspring won't take after him...
