Take a left at the giant candy cane

We used to go to a long-gone, local amusement park called Santa's Village. This old photo tricked me into thinking it was a winter pic, but really it was my sister's birthday in April, 1976. We Californians have this winter business all mixed up.

If you look on the ground you can see my mom's purse — we used it as a chair when there weren't any toadstools to sit on.

Now I use the purse to hold embroidery floss. Alicia Paulson has me jumping through ye olde embroidery hoop as I try to get my handmade presents done asap. Check out Alicia's set of felt ornament patterns here.

This ornament is going to my sister because she just went ice skating for the first time in a long time, probably since 1976. This is where she went. I told you we have this winter business all wacky.

I have this urge right now to rush to my mother's house and dig out the photo of me with my little cousin about 22 years ago at Santa's Village. I can still hear the man from the commercial saying, "See Santa's Reindeer!"

Wow. Memories! I always thought Santa's Village smelled funny, and I was afraid of the women in the bakery. I thought they were witches and refused to eat the cookies. Imagine that.

Wow! I have the same purse. Loved it and didn't want to throw it out. Now I will use it for sewing stuff too. Great idea!

OMG ! Did you bring back a memory for me. I was born in S. Cal and Have been to Santa's Village. I don't remember actually being there but I have pics. I guess I was only 5 ? maybe. I ad forgotten about it. Well, it was a long time ago 47 years ago. Is it still there? Now I'm gonna have to dig for that pic. Unfortunately my family has never been great about actually putting all the pics in books :-(
Thanks for the memory, Tiffani in Ohio

Hi! So sad when the Lake Arrowhead Santa's Village closed. I swear this is NOT a shill for my Etsy shop, but I just had to tell you that the same day you posted this, I put a Santa's Village perpetual calendar in my shop! What a coincidence, really...

Ya know, I've lived in California all my life and we never once got to go to Santa's Village. It seemed like such a magical place when we were kids...I was deprived!

Oh, Santa's Village!! I can remember seeing it from the freeway when I was a kid, but I never got to actually go there and then it was closed. It seemed like such a magical place.... I'd totally forgotten about that. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I wouldn't have remembered Santa's Village had you not mentioned it -- we had one outside of Chicago. I think my parents only took us once. . . . I wonder why.

Your ice skate looks fantastic. I hope your sissy loved it. What a nice present!
