A Posie for Ella
The whole time I was pregnant I wanted to make some girl clothes, specifically dresses, but I didn't know the gender of baby to be. I scanned inspirational photos from magazines, added cute crafty posts to my bookmarks, and even bought Heather Ross' bike fabric in pink. I wasn't holding my breath though, as I anticipated karma would dish me out not one, but two wild-animal sons. Not that boys are punishment, I just figured that my destiny is to have two active-explorer types keeping me on my toes. You know the routine: "Please don't saw the flowers" "Sorry, you're not old enough to have a chain saw." Luckily I'm a tomboy and my son likes to cook and do art so we have a balance. But, how to satisfy my inner girlie girl? After seeing a post by Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy I knew I had to make her Bella Baby Dress. Luckily my friend's daughter, Ella, likes to wear dresses. So, here we have a Posie for Ella. And, so her big sister doesn't feel left out, an amigurumi cat from Nekoyama's pattern via Boogaj.

oh my gosh. it's gorgeous!! just gorgeous!! What a lucky Ella she is. ;)
Such a sweet dress and matching bear!
And I'm rather envious of that beautiful bowl the bear is perched on.
A friend told me about your blog. We're enjoying it a lot! We all went to high school together! :) Had to tell you that you went to school with Heather Ross's sister, too. Neat, huh?
I peek in your blog from time to time and love it.
Sweet dress!
Gorgeous dress! Lucky girl.
Amanda: Thanks! You know I love what you make.
Capello: Yes, that bowl, isn't it gorgeous--too bad I broke it! It was one of the only perfect-condition vintage bowls I had, now it's totally cracked. Argh!
Melissa!: You've piqued my interest.
Kristin: Thanks. I was thinking about buying some fabric from you and having you pick them out, sort of a grab bag kind of thingy. Have you ever done that?
thanks for all the great links... your crochet is beautiful!! i keep trying to learn and in the end get frustrated then always return to knitting...but that bear pattern gives me re-newed interest.
hey, I know what you mean... I've got three boys (5yr to ten months) and I do crave girlie things, sometimes there's so much testosterone in this house I'm worried I'll have to start shaving my face soon too!
Good luck with everything.
(I wouldn't change my boys for the world.)
The dress is precious! Such a great pattern. The colors are wonderful, too.
In my family there were 3 girls until we were in our teens and then my mother had two boys. I wish I could report otherwise, but the girls were just as destructive as the boys. When I was little, my mother was constantly saying, "Why can't I have nice things?" It's become the family joke. :) We might not have wanted our own chainsaws, but that didn't stop us from leaving a swath of destruction in our wake.
Beautiful! (The dress and the bear).
Beautiful..I also have an Ella! And she definately keeps me on my toes as does my other tomboy daughter!!!
I've never seen such a "belle" (beautiful !) dress before !! You're such a talented artist ! I wish I could able to make such creation too !! Big smooches
Oh what wonderful and lovely gifts!!
You did such a great job on the dress (and the bear)! Thank you for choosing it -- I hope Ella (and her mother, of course) are very pleased.
The dress is really sweet - and the cat's just adorable :-)
How lovely!! This is really beautiful!
I also ordered this pattern and am so excited to make it, even though I don't have any kids and we seem to be having a run of boys in the family. But darn it I'll make it for someone even if I have to give it away on the street.
I love the colors you chose. Also the little flowers on the belt are so sweet.
From Ella Bella's mama:
SO adorable Michelle. Ro ro is singing a little song, "can't stop looking at it, can't stop looking at it!!!" Ella Bella is screaming, "oh my God" (the joys of older sister mimicry).
Love,
Craft Whore
From ro ro:
I love the dress. The kitty cat is really cute too, thank you so much. Ella is gonna love it and look good in it.
Love,
Ro Ro
p.s. Say hi to Hayes
Now there you go again, making me wish I could crochet!
PS You get my vote for Mom of the Year ; ) Thanks for being Real.
I don't know what I like more--the dress, the cute cat, or the cabinet that the dress is hanging on. And the bowls and dishware in the cabinet--wow! I really like your style, woman.
P.S. Thanks for the note, Michelle. xoxo
