Crocheted Cake Hat

Crocheted Cake Hat
Originally uploaded by Green Kitchen.
This was the pattern that I learned to crochet hats from--originally, though, it wasn't a cake hat. When I added the fuzzy blue yarn it changed the drape of the hat, it made a 90 degree angle, which created a top and sides. The fuzzy yarn made me think of frosting, so I went for it. I added a popcorn flower to the top to hold the felt candle. The candle is just stuck into the center of the flower, so you can remove it for a less conspicuous look. This one went to our friend Noé for his third birthday. Happy Birthday Noé!!!

Loving that hat. Hey, would my first graders enjoy wearing something like that for their birthday!

I REALLY want to learn to crochet. Have you ever taught anybody? (hint hint)

A--I haven't taught anyone before, and I'm not a very patient teacher, but, the allure of the chanterelle is very strong. I could be tempted by mushrooms. Or, I could make you one, since I'm feeling very homebodyish going into my last month of pregnancy.

How cute! I am really loving that fuzzy blue cake hat! It's way too fun!

I just realized that you're close by, too. I'm over in Monterey. Howdy neighbor! :D

Oh that is the cutest! I love the idea of crocheted sweets but I still have to learn how to crochet so I can make some! Great inspiration!

My goodness! I didn't know you were pregnant! I guess that means we can't go a-hunting together? But I will be foraging this weekend and I'll let you know how it goes (taking a reputable expert with me this time)....

Put those feet up!

This is hysterical! I have been making crocheted cupcakes but I never thought of making a cake hat! Well done.

Perfect for a 3 year old--or a 53 year old, for that matter. So celebratory!

I find it so much easier to modify and create crochet patterns than knitted ones, and since I've been knitting much longer than crocheting you'd think it would be the other way around. But anyway---that hat is adorable.
