Vintage Button Rings

Vintage Button Rings
Originally uploaded by Green Kitchen.
These were inspired by an old Craftster post, but my sister said I was not allowed to use the cheap adjustable ring bands. So, I used vintage elastic and colored it with Sharpie thinking it looked cool. It didn't work out. The elastic stretched out whenever it got wet (like everytime I washed my hands). And, then, the color would run and stain my finger. I used the vintage elastic because it had a beautiful satin-like sheen. I ended up selling them at a craft fair for a dollar each with a disclaimer. They looked like candy in a bowl.

Lovely rings! I especially like the orange swirly one. Maybe you could attach a cord (like one found in the Klutz book entitled, Spool Knit Jewelry) Just an idea. I love your embroidery as well. Little snippets of color...what are they part of?

These are too cute, I would have bought them all for a buck a piece. I think you should make more and use the cording.

They are adorable!

You could also try throwing the vintage elastic in a dye bath, then set the color in white vinegar afterward. But the problem with dye baths is once you make one, the addictive urge to dye everything in the house creeps up on you! Then suddenly everthing's a wild color like fuschia pink. ;)

Thank you all for the nice ring comments. I need to look into that Klutz book to see what you're referring to. And, a dye bath sounds good, too--what's wrong with everything being fuscia pink. :) These rings are really fun and easy to make--I recommend you all try it sometime.

Found your site looking for places that sell vintage button rings. Yours are cute!! :) Are you going to be making more/selling them? I have bought rings like this before(they no longer carry them...bummer)and they use Czech glass beads for the band.....dont know if that is something you have tried. Hope you decide to make some more though and sell them! :)
